BCH Technical Services, LLC - Mail Information
There are three basic steps to configure email retrieval (reading):
-
Review these notes before proceeding:
-
VERY IMPORTANT! If you use a POP or IMAP email client,
the most common means of email retrieval, you MUST
configure it to use SSL as described in the
configuration instructions in the next section for your
client. If you do NOT select SSL security you will NOT
be able to fetch email. You have been warned!
-
Information you have been given to setup your mail
is case-sensitivel. For example, if your "login" is
'bsmith', you cannot use 'BSmith'. It will not work.
-
Use the correct information. Your "email address"
cannot be used as your "login" and vice-versa. Refer
carefully to the setup information you were given
before entering information into your email client.
-
Certain ISP's, like Earthlink, block access to outgoing
mail servers other than the one they provide you with.
If you find that you cannot connect to the outgoing
mail server that you were provided with your new mail
account, you will need to change it to use the ISP's
outgoing mail server.
-
It is possible to use Eudora, but the configuration
process is very involved. You might consider using
Outlook Express instead.
-
Most of the instructions provided are for configuring
POP and not IMAP, though IMAP is supported.
